Ocean waves, as a sound rather than a cure

Ocean-wave recordings capture the rise and fall of surf: a swell, a rush of water, and a retreat over sand or stones. Some include wind, birds, or people in the distance. Unlike a constant noise signal, waves have a changing rhythm and may contain louder moments. That variation can be pleasant, or it can pull your attention away from what you are doing.

Someone who enjoys the coast may choose surf as a background for a break or a quiet evening. Our research notes do not provide ocean-specific evidence that it improves concentration, lowers anxiety, or makes sleep better. A familiar, enjoyable sound does not need a medical explanation, and findings about white or pink noise are not proof of a special ocean-wave effect.

The embedded list looks for ocean, sea, and surf recordings in the selected mode. If there is no matching recording, we say so rather than calling ordinary rain ocean waves. When a recording is available, preview it at a low volume and check for sudden peaks before listening at bedtime. General research on continuous noise and sleep is very low quality and mixed, so a timer is a sensible option. Follow our research link for sources and limitations, and choose silence if it suits you better.
